Kat: It’s More Than Just Physical

Kat: It’s More Than Just Physical

Starting running often begins with a simple goal but what you gain goes far beyond that.

This First Miles story is a reminder that running isn’t about how your body looks or how fast you go. It’s about showing up, building mental strength, and realising what you’re capable of.

Why I Started Running

I started running to lose weight.

At the time, it was about improving my fitness and making a change. But what I didn’t realise was how much more running would give me beyond that initial goal.

What Running Taught Me

The biggest surprise was realising that I could actually do it.

Running can feel intimidating before you start, but once you take that first step, you begin to see what your body is capable of. It’s not about being perfect, it’s about proving to yourself that you can keep going.

It’s Not About How You Look

One of the most important things I’ve learned is that it doesn’t matter what your body looks like.

If you can put one foot in front of the other, you can run.

Running isn’t defined by appearance. It’s defined by effort, consistency, and the willingness to keep moving forward.

Running Is Mental As Much As Physical

Running isn’t just a physical challenge, it’s a mental one.

It takes strength to keep going when it feels hard, to push past doubt, and to show up even on the days you don’t feel like it. That mental resilience is something that builds with every run.

Advice for Anyone Scared to Start Running

You can do it.

It really is mind over matter. Once the run is over, the sense of achievement and belonging you feel is incredible.

And there’s no such thing as a bad run. If you’ve got up and got out, you’re already taking steps in the right direction.

Starting Your Running Journey

Running isn’t about perfection. It’s not about pace, distance, or appearance.

It’s about starting.

Your First Miles don’t need to look like anyone else’s. They just need to happen.
